Krieger Seeks to Salute Heroes of Iwo Jima and Local WWII Veterans
Rep. Tim Krieger (R-Delmont) is looking for information on Legislative District 57 World War II Veteran’s, or surviving family members, to honor them during an upcoming ceremony commemorating the 65th Anniversary of the American flag being raised at the Battle of Iwo Jima.
Featuring U.S. Marine Corps Major General Tom Jones (Ret.) as keynote speaker, the ceremony will take place at 10:30 a.m. at Ferrante’s Lakeview, located along Route 30, Greensburg, on Friday, March 26.
“The Battle of Iwo Jima and the rest of the uncompromising sacrifices made by our World War II veterans provide both living and textbook examples of America’s enduring legacy of dedication to victory, whatever the hardship,” said Krieger. “To some in our country, the integral ethics of honor, courage, endurance, leadership under fire and so many other virtues that made victory possible during World War II have become obsolete or even dangerous traits that should be forgotten, rather than celebrated. As a former naval officer and now a state lawmaker, I believe that honoring our military heroes through a special ceremony is the least I can do to see that every single World War II veteran living in the 57th Legislative District receives the recognition he or she deserves.”
Local World War II veterans and anyone who knows a WWII veteran who should be recognized is encouraged to contact Krieger’s Greensburg district office at (724) 834-6400 and provide the following information: name, home address, and phone number along with rank, branch of service, and time of service.
The deadline to register is Friday, March 12.
Krieger’s legislative district includes the Westmoreland County communities of Alwine, Bovard, Carbon, Crabtree, Delmont Borough, Fort Allen, Gayville, Grapeville, Greensburg, Hannastown, Haydenville, High Park, Hunker Borough, Kuhns, Lincoln Heights, Luxor, Middletown, New Stanton, New Stanton Borough, North Carbon, Salem Township, Sibel, South Greensburg Borough, Southwest Greensburg Borough, Valley and Youngwood Borough.
